Communications from Our Neighbourhood Watch Co-Coordinator

09 March 2018

There have been reports of cold callers operating in the local area whereby a variety of services are offered including landscape gardening, tarmac application and drive cleaning. The people offering these services can be quite persistent and have also asked about cars for sale and scrap metal.

Be wary of all cold-callers offering to do work on your home, as they can offer over-priced or unnecessary services where the work can be of a very poor quality. There have been occasions where the cost has increased dramatically once the work has started, forcing the homeowner to pay way above the agreed price. All traders must give you a written quote from their business address, which should include a 14-day cancellation period before the work starts. You should always use recognised companies or people who have been recommended to you by a trusted source.

23 February 2018

Watch out for suspicious persons in Dyrham and perhaps in other parts of the parish. Strangers have been noticed loitering in parts they should not have been in. They may be assessing houses for burglary. A red Transit van may have been their conveyance. One person was dressed in camouflage trousers, with a knitted blue top with cloth elbow patches, dark-haired and not very tall, aged about 30, and accompanied by a Jack Russell terrier- type dog. Several other strangers travelling in the district may be involved.

If you see any suspicious persons, please contact the Police in the usual way and let Glenn know. Details of number plates will be useful.
